Abstract
In August 2020, East Java experienced inflation of 0.04 percent. Of the eight CPI cities in East Java, three cities experienced inflation and five cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation was in Surabaya at 0.07 percent. Meanwhile, the highest deflation occurred in Jember at 0.11 percent.
Inflation occurred due to an increase in prices as indicated by an increase in the index of most expenditure groups, namely: the clothing and footwear group by 0.07 percent, the housing, water, electricity and household fuel group by 0.02 percent, the transportation group by 0.02 percent, 0.25 percent, the pre-recreation, sports and culture group by 0.04 percent, the education group by 0.33 percent, the food and beverage / restaurant supply group by 0.30 percent, and the personal care and other services group by 1.91 percent. While the groups experiencing deflation were the food, beverage and tobacco group by 0.81 percent, the equipment, equipment and household routine maintenance group by 0.01 percent, and the health group by 0.03 percent. Meanwhile, the information, communication and financial services group did not experience any changes.
The inflation rate for the calendar year for August 2020 is 0.89 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (August 2020 against August 2019) is 1.39 percent.
